Two Words

For someone battling cancer there are two words you don’t want to hear after scheduled scans: metastasis and recurrence. Before our last trip, we dealt with a metastatic tumor in Mark’s lung. Before this trip he had a recurrence of cancer in the leg where the cancer originated which required another surgery similar to the one he had two and a half years ago. After a lengthy recovery, Mark started feeling better so we looked at the calendar and realized we had a small block of time before his next scheduled scan in December. We were ready to do something. We had optimistically planned a trip, before surgery, to Florida, but recovery dragged, hurricanes came and reservations were canceled. We chose Florida because Mark’s family lived there in the 1970’s and he has wonderful memories from that time. After meeting with a wound specialist on Monday, we concluded Mark could continue his recovery in a lawn chair just as easily as his recliner so we hit the road. We’ll be revisiting some of the special places from Mark’s childhood on this trip with our ultimate destination the Florida Keys; a new place for both of us.

Today’s pictures are from Silver Springs. We are camping at Silver Springs State Park. The glass bottom boats from our childhood are still here providing crystal clear views of the bottom of the springs and reminding us of a time when life was simpler.
